This Privacy Policy explains how Calorie Counter ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use our mobile application and related services (the "App").
By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
## 1. Controller and contact
The App is published by the developer of Calorie Counter. For privacy requests, contact:
**Email:** [email protected]
## 2. Information we collect
We may collect or process the following categories of information:
### 2.1 Information you provide
- Onboarding and profile details (for example age, sex, height, weight, activity level, goals, diet preferences, allergies).
- Food diary entries (meal names, calories, macronutrients, servings, dates, meal types).
- Custom recipes and text you enter.
- Photos you capture or upload for food scanning.
### 2.2 Information collected automatically
- App interactions needed to operate features (for example selected date, language, unit preferences).
- Subscription and entitlement status (processed through Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat).
- Technical data such as device type, operating system, and app version when required for support or security.
### 2.3 Information stored on your device
Much of your diary, recipes, and preferences are stored locally on your device (for example using AsyncStorage). This data remains on your device unless you delete the App or clear app data.
## 3. How we use your information
We use information to:
- Provide food logging, calorie tracking, recipes, and progress features.
- Analyze food photos with AI and return estimated nutrition information.
- Calculate personalized calorie and macro targets.
- Manage free and paid (Pro) access, including usage limits for free users.
- Process subscriptions and restore purchases.
- Maintain security, debug issues, and improve the App.
- Comply with legal obligations.
## 4. AI food photo analysis
When you scan a meal, the App may send your photo (or an encoded image representation) to our backend API hosted on **Vercel**, which forwards it to **OpenAI** for analysis. The image is used only to generate nutrition estimates for your request.
- Do not submit photos that contain sensitive personal data unrelated to food.
- AI results are estimates and may be inaccurate.
- Configure your backend to avoid unnecessary long-term storage of images.
## 5. Subscriptions and payments
Payments are processed by **Apple** or **Google**. We use **RevenueCat** to manage subscriptions and entitlements (for example "Calorie Counter Pro"). We do not receive your full payment card number. We may receive subscription status, product identifiers, and transaction-related metadata from store and RevenueCat systems.
## 6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- **Service providers** that help us operate the App (hosting, AI, subscriptions, analytics if enabled).
- **App stores** (Apple, Google) for purchases and compliance.
- **Authorities** when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
- **Successors** in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, subject to applicable law.
## 7. Third-party services
The App integrates third-party services that process data under their own policies, including:
- Apple App Store
- Google Play (if applicable)
- RevenueCat
- Vercel
- OpenAI
- Expo / React Native ecosystem providers
We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
## 8. Data retention
- **On-device data:** retained until you delete the App or clear storage.
- **Server processing:** food images should be processed transiently; avoid retaining images longer than necessary for the scan request.
- **Subscription records:** retained as required by app stores, tax, and accounting rules.
## 9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No system is completely secure. Use the App at your own risk.
## 10. Your rights and choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to data portability. You may also withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
To exercise rights, email **[email protected]**. You can delete local App data by uninstalling the App or clearing app storage in device settings.
## 11. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us to request deletion if you believe a child provided data.
## 12. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own (including the United States), where privacy laws may differ. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards permitted by law.
## 13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version in the App and revise the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
## 14. California and other regional notices
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including rights to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of certain sharing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
